  1. I wonder about silence - from the perspective you're taking, you're talking about a specific kind of silence, right? when you say, for instance, and silence is not excusable, pleasant respectful you're definitely privileging the spoken or the heard or the seen rather than the silenced or hidden. So, there is a really interesting tension there in that sometimes the heard drowns out and silences other voices! What a paradox.
I think it is also so interesting, Rachel, that this is your issue - your quiet manner is anything but silent and your gentleness conveys a definite sense of strength...

  2. I'm interested in this issue because this issue applies to all of us. at some time in some arena we have all had things to offer that were not valued. at the root is the desire that all would be able to be heard and taken seriously.

  3. You might be interested in the writings of Paolo Friere - are you familiar with this man?

  4. We do have a lot of the same ideas in common, I am having a hard time finding more artists that specifically deal with self-censorship though, do you have any ideas? I am finding more and more just talking to peers that almost all artists do, but for different reasons. Like I don't want them to think I can't draw a person so I don't want it to be this abstracted and reasons like that. But I want the big reasons!
